Robin Porter has bought a Jeep similar to this one.

Robin Porter is proud of his new, old car (and with good reason):

One day last September, walking my doggies on Main Street, Wickford, I was startled to see an antique Navy gray Jeep go by. Startled, and excited, as I had long been searching for a Quonset Navy Jeep, but unsuccessfully.

Well, I began a period of negotiations with the owner-restorer and about Christmas time we closed the deal. Now everybody is convinced this is a good deal, and two granddaughters are enthusiastic and busy sorting out who will sit where for the Memorial Day Parade, to wave flags at the crowds.

And so thirty-five years after the closing of Naval Air Station Quonset Pt., North Kingstown has a Navy Jeep to remind us of our town’s distinguished Naval heritage, and I have the fun of driving an antique jeep around town.”
